Professional Department
Staff development opportunities are offered in the schools, at the district, county and state level, and through the Arizona Teacher Center and local colleges.
District staff development opportunities are focused on strategies and techniques to strengthen and enhance programs in the schools.
Staff participating in district in-service programs are required to complete an evaluation of the offered workshop/activity.
Effective teaching is key to providing quality instruction and productive learning. Consequently, teacher training is a top priority in the County and one of the major responsibilities of the GCESA's Professional Development Department. Reading/language arts, mathematics, science and social studies teachers have been trained in the newly developed state standards as they pertain to their subject area and/or grade level. The ongoing teacher development program is designed to ensure that all teachers are trained appropriately and adequately for the delivery of effective instruction.
Teacher training is based on the most current research describing best instructional practices, and is presented in various formats in order to address different teaching styles. The Gila County Education Service Agency's staff development model includes the following components:
- Workshops are held throughout the school year to focus on targeted professional growth areas.
- Professional development funds defray the registration and travel costs for teachers to attend professional conferences, seminars and workshops throughout the school year and summer.
